The house settles into the landscape with a serene, bold and essential architectural presence. A home designed to belong to its surroundings without giving up a contemporary language, where material, light and the connection with the outdoors shape a distinctive way of living.
Cast-in-place concrete defines much of the house’s character. Used throughout the façades, walls and generous cantilevers, it is left exposed, revealing the traces of its construction and allowing the structure itself to become the finish. Its solid, mineral presence contrasts with the warmth of rosewood, used both outside and throughout the interior, accompanying the journey through the house. Timber screens, wall cladding and bespoke joinery introduce texture, rhythm and depth, softening the strength of the concrete.
The house opens onto the garden through large expanses of glazing that blur the boundary between inside and outside. The main living areas extend beneath a generous concrete porch, conceived as another room in the house: an intermediate space, sheltered yet open to the Cantabrian landscape, where architecture accommodates different ways of living throughout the year. Living room, dining area, kitchen, terrace, garden and swimming pool become part of a single spatial sequence.
Inside, the architecture retains the same sense of clarity. Neutral tones and clean lines engage in a dialogue with the natural richness of the rosewood and the dark stone, while overhead daylight and large openings transform the spaces as the day unfolds. Modern, minimalist architecture that nevertheless remains warm and domestic, allowing each material to retain its own identity.
Above the horizontal, abstract geometry of the concrete rises a traditional pitched gable roof finished with red clay tiles. It is a deliberate reference to the vernacular architecture of Cantabria, allowing the house to establish a dialogue between two different architectural languages. Beneath its contemporary expression remains the familiar memory of the home: the roof, the materiality, the sense of protection and shelter.
