HOUSE IN SOMO III

Somo. Ribamontán al Mar. Cantabria

The house sits on flat land in a residential area on the outskirts of Somo, blending in with the open landscape that surrounds it. Its volume consists of two superimposed concrete structures, which are given a sense of lightness thanks to the large glass panels and wooden partitions. This combination brings rhythm and warmth, transforming the solidity of the concrete into a balanced and welcoming whole.

The upper section, which is more restrained, is set back from the lower section to create a large north-facing terrace. From this vantage point, the view opens up generously to the surroundings, and a delicate spiral staircase leads to the roof, designed as a privileged space for contemplating the horizon.

The facades respond both to the sun's orientation and to the function of each space. To the south, large windows open onto the garden, extending the interior life through porches and terraces that invite you to inhabit the outdoors. Natural light floods the rooms, becoming the true protagonist.

On these sunny façades, the concrete is fragmented into horizontal bands that integrate large panels of glass and wood, creating a harmonious rhythm that brings warmth and lightness to the whole.

In contrast, the north façade is configured with continuous concrete surfaces that enclose the volume, reinforcing its massive and protective character. The composition is enriched with subtle touches of graphite gray, which frame the openings and precisely define the details and finishes.

Inside, the minimalist and refined design turns each space into a luminous setting. The cement-colored ceramic floors extend the texture of the concrete, reinforcing the continuity of the material. The main staircase, lined with cement panels and accompanied by a wooden slat railing, stands out as a central piece: sober and warm at the same time, it takes up the material dialogue of the façade and transfers it to the heart of the house.
